Praying for Healing from Autism for Your Child? BEWARE of this “Religious Mindset” TRAP that Causes Unbelief

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 1:30-31

The Word of God is clear. God wants your child well.

He sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to pay for everything sin birthed into the earth – including sickness.

The Lord also refers to ALL sickness as oppression by the devil. Therefore, autism is oppression by the devil. NOT God’s will for your child! Will you believe His report?

We say what God says about sickness and line our faith up with His Word, not the world’s, not doctors’ reports, not the opinions of man:

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him,” (Acts 10:38).

“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil,” (1 John 3:8).

The Word says Jesus does good to us, heals us from the oppression of the devil, and not only that, His PURPOSE for coming in the flesh was that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Why did the Lord insert the word “might” 1 John 3:8?

Might because our unbelief can block us from receiving His will and promises for ourselves. His Word says His shed blood, death, and resurrection purchased healing for us. Might because, the Lord will not violate our free will choice to reject His will for ourselves. If one doesn’t believe His blood purchased healing for us and that it is more powerful than sickness, then this is considered unbelief.

And when could Jesus, the Son of God, NOT do mighty works?

“Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief,” (Matthew 13:58).

If one’s unbelief keeps God Himself from doing mighty works on their behalf, then the devil will use every means possible to get His children to enter into it. As unbelief in the promises of God is an outright rejection of them for oneself or child.

“But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him,” (Luke 7:30).

So, what is this “religious mindset” TRAP of the devil that causes unbelief?

I have heard this lie from the enemy many times, even coming from the mouths of Christians, regarding you, mom or dad, having a child with autism: “God must think you’re extra special to give you a child with autism. He gave you a special child because you’re special, and He knew you could handle this special assignment.”

That’s a whole lot of special masking the big fat lie that it is!!! Their words are ridiculous lies from the pit of hell. They don’t know the Word of God and that they are allowing satan to use them as vessels to try to plant these seeds in you in order to get you to agree that the blood of Jesus in not enough to make you “special” or righteous enough.

Lie: “No, parent, you need to work and work hard as a caretaker of a sick child in order to be so special. That’s why you have a sick child because you’re serving God this way because what Jesus did is not enough you know. Work work work. Suffer suffer suffer.”

By using twisting words that SEEM nice, BUT ARE NOT BIBLICAL, the enemy wants you to fall for the lie: “You need more than Jesus to be good, so He gave you a sick child.” This is a massive false doctrine.

No, it’s: Jesus + nothing = you are already everything righteous and “special” in the eyes of your loving Heavenly Father!

If you get into agreement with this lie and trap of the enemy, you are getting into works of the flesh – self-righteousness – instead of believing by faith that you already have the full righteousness of God in Jesus Christ, purchased by His very blood.

Another way to repeat the lie of the devil would be to say, “Parents who have a child with autism are more special than people with healthy children in the eyes of God.”

The reason why this is a trap of the enemy is because it can cause some who don’t know the Word of God and/or don’t rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit in all things to believe the lie over the Word of God and settle for sickness – autism – in their child’s body.

Many have come to believe the lie that “since God chose them to be special” as the parents of children afflicted with autism, then having a sick child must be God’s will. Thus by default, they reject the atoning blood of Jesus Christ for their child, settle for the enemy’s trap, and are incapable of praying prayers of faith for their child’s healing. EXACTLY according to the devil’s plans and traps for them.

That’s why the Lord warns us in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” This is written to us, Christ followers, for the lost don’t care to read, know, or follow Him and His Word. This means it’s possible for God’s children to be devoured by the devil. Possible but clearly not God’s will since He strongly warns against it. Devoured – such as when they believe the lie that it is their calling to settle for autism or any other sickness, disease, or disorder in their child’s body as some service to God.

Let me rewrite the lie with the light of scripture shined on it so you can see how crazy it is to believe this self-righteousness trap of the enemy:

“God must think you’re extra special to give you a child with autism since He Himself considers all sickness oppression of the devil (AKA a work of the devil). The Word says God is not the Author of disorder and confusion (1 Cor 14:33), so this sounds about right.

It all makes sense, ya know, that it must His will for Him to want oppression of the devil (Acts 10:38) to stay on your child since the Word says He went about doing good and healing ALL who were oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38).

And also since the main reason Jesus came in the flesh was to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), it makes so much sense that He wants the works of the devil to stay in your child’s body.

Makes sense, don’t ya think? So, I’m just making this up as I go along. I have no idea where these thoughts came from, but it must be that He gave you a special child because He thought you were special, and He knew you could handle this special assignment. Ya know because ya gotta earn your way to heaven by doing works. This must make you better than parents of healthy children. Surely, this will earn you points with God too.”

That. Was. So. Difficult. To. Write. Because it’s what people, even Christians, actually believe when they think it’s God’s will to have a child who is sick in any way – including autism.

I led this post with this verse for a reason:

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord,” (1 Corinthians 1:30-31).

In Christ, we glory in the Lord ALONE not by what we do or whether or not we are parenting a special/additional needs child. We are fully His righteousness simply because we are in Christ.

And will add this one here too:

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him,” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

In Christ, we are the EXACT righteousness of God.

It’s not what we do or don’t do. Not the health of our child and all the extremely hard work that does along with taking care of a child with autism that makes us righteous or special.

Believing one needs more than Jesus to make them special is a “works to gain righteousness” or “self-righteousness lie” – a religious mindset the enemy wants you to embrace, so you accept a sick child as God’s will instead of exchanging sickness – autism – for what Jesus ALREADY did for them.

We can believe the Word of the Lord or the lies of the devil. We can accept the promises of God by faith and receive them or get into agreement with the lies and traps of the enemy and reject the will of God for ourselves through unbelief.

This is God’s will for your child because Jesus FINISHED the work of our Father 2000 years ago:

“Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed,” (1 Peter 2:24).

“Surely He has borne our [g]griefs and carried our [h]sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed,” (Isaiah 53:4-5).

[g] = sicknesses

[h] = pains

“He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions,” (Psalm 107:20). Who is the Word? Jesus. See John 1:1;14.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases, “(Psalm 103:2-3).

“When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

“He Himself took our infirmities
And bore our sicknesses,” (Matt 8:16-17).

If you are praying for healing from autism for your child, make the exchange with Jesus by faith – autism for total head-to-toe healing, paid for in full by Jesus Christ who took and bore all your child’s afflictions. But we must believe in order to receive His promises by faith.

THIS is His will for your child. To set him/her free from oppression of the devil and set you free from the captivity as their lifelong caretaker.

Because being “special to God” has zero to do with your works and deeds. Being a caretaker does nothing in the eyes of the Lord to make you better than anyone else if you are in Christ.

You are not doing a “special service” to God by serving autism. Since all sickness is a work of the devil, that’s what one is doing – serving a sickness. We must never equate a child with a sickness or disorder like autism. A child is not equal to any disease. A child’s identity is 0% autism. Autism is an invader that takes over a child’s will, personality, development, emotions, etc. by causing brain inflammation.

We love our child and can simultaneously hate autism with a passion because our child is not a disorder. We can hate autism and never celebrate it because of the suffering IT CAUSES our child.

And because God says we MUST hate it because it’s a work of the devil. “Hate evil, you who love the Lord,” (Psalm 97:10). All sickness and disorders, etc. are works of the devil, therefore, the Word says we are called to hate it. Again, a child is not a disorder nor is his/her identity a disorder.

God does not require us to love a work of the devil. That’s the confusion of the enemy talking to think the Lord would desire so. That’s the enemy trying to get us to accept his identity – a sickness – as our child’s identity and never believe God for His will: “By Jesus’ stripes my child (________) WAS healed,” (1 Peter 2:24).

As a child of God, your righteousness is of God because of Jesus Christ. You are not selfish to want to be set free from being a lifelong caretaker. No, you want your child healed, well, independent, and healthy because God does too. Jesus paid for it. Why wouldn’t He want your child to have what’s already available to him/her by faith for the taking?

The truth shall set us free the Word says…

Thank you so much sister. It also sadden and grieves the heart of the Lord to see His children accept this bondage/captivity for their own children. And all glory to the Lord for His Spirit taught it to me in my quest to diligently seek Him with all my heart to know His truth on healing. He “dropped” these truths into my spirit as I’ve fiercely sought Him as a desperate mother who wants her child well AND has found NO rebuke in the Lord for it. The devil is a liar! Love you. God bless.
