If we look at the state of this nation (the U.S.), those who can see, see evidence of a lukewarm church all around – a church devoid of His transforming Word that lifts Him up by lifting up the true gospel – the one that in centered on His death and resurrection and the need for the world to be saved from perishing eternally because of sin.
I see powerless, entertainment factories, not churches lifting Him up, discipling and getting people set free, so many in turn can disciple and set free, not churches allowing the Holy Spirit to have His way.
Wickedness has its roots all over this nation because of passive, man-fearing shepherds, leadership, and people of God who are attendance focused instead of Word focused. Apathetic, ear tickling messages abound and model conforming to this world shouting “it’s okay for the flock to follow likewise”.
The church is not a business, it’s a place for the sin sick to be made whole the only way they can – salvation through Jesus Christ. It’s a place to continue the healing process once saved by His grace. It’s a place for discipleship so ALL His children are equipped to ‘go out’ and and DO THE WORDS of Jesus, “And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven [a]is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:7-8).
Honestly, many shepherds and churches are like little dictators and dictatorships….
- TOTALLY controlled by the leadership and utterly quenching His Spirit.
- Not allowing those who fellowship there (also their brothers and sisters in Christ) to ask questions or question anything they do.
- Not allowing accountability to the church.
- Limiting God by THEIR experiences with God and making doctrines out of them (e.g. because they have’t laid hands on the sick and have seen them healed then it must not be for today). That is ego centric, prideful, and demonic.
Many of today’s shepherds need our fervent prayers, but they also need to be called out.
“Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
MATTHEW 18:15-17
Some amazing, God-breathed blog posts I am reading are by Pastor Murillo. This one is excellent here.
The state of the church in the U.S. is a stench in His nostrils, but praise God, He is married to us despite ourselves and is not giving up on us. As is evident by posts like Pastor Murillo’s and all the things He has me and many other intercessors praying for the church.
Thank You, Lord, for always desiring Your best for us. Help us get there. We need You!
Prayer
“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” This He said, signifying by what death He would die”
JOHN 12:32-33
Lord, by Your Holy Spirit, touch every shepherd, every one of Your children and give them eyes to see and the heart to cry out for the church, Your beloved bride, to become ALL You desire for us. Let Your manifest presence visit every one of Your children now to renew them and set them on fire for You and Your kingdom ways. I say to the blind eyes amongst Your people and all the shepherds who are still blind and allowing the culture to shape him or her instead of Jesus – eyes open. See as God sees. Do as He’d have us do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
