Elijah Prophesied and Prayed UNTIL God’s Will Came to Pass – 1 Kings 18

1 Kings 18 is a great example of persisting in prayer based on knowing the Word and will of God – which we can today because we have 100% of His Word to know His will in many things.

So He tells us His will (His Word), and we pray and don’t give up until we see.

God tells Elijah: It’s going to rain. = God’s Word and expressed will was given to Elijah.

Elijah could either take God for His Word and will OR reject it for himself, not pray His will into the earth for it to rain.

What did Elijah do?

He took God for His Word, prophesied it, kept His eyes on God alone despite what he saw in the natural (longtime drought) and prayed until it came to pass. This is a beautiful picture of prayer, instructing us to do the same.

God’s will: .E.g. By Jesus’ stripes, we WERE healed, 1 Pet 2:24.

1 Kings 18 word

So we can prophesy the same over ourselves or loved ones AND pray until we SEE it come to pass in the natural, gripping what is in the spirit realm (God’s will), and pulling it into the natural realm through “praying and not giving up” prayer, based on the Word and will of the Father.

1 Kings 18:1; 41-46

18 And it came to pass after many days that the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, “Go, present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the earth.”

1 Kings 18:41-46

41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” 42 So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, 43 and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.”

So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.”

44 Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’ ”

45 Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. 46 Then the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Praise God! His Word is given for our instruction out of His great love for us.

Our good Father does NOT leave us unequipped in the land of the living. We have His Word (will), His Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts, and the power of prayer to carry us through to victory in all things.

Psalm 34:19 – Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Hallelujah! Glory to the Lamb who was slain. Who took our place!
