I’m deeply saddened by many comments I see on-line by believers regarding the Holy Spirit and His help and work in our lives today.

We either take God for His Word in John 10:27 (above) or reject His Word which He equates to rejecting Him because He is His Word (John 1:1;14).

Now, once we are born again, there is no condemnation in Jesus Christ, but do we really want to be rejecting the words of Jesus. I’m a plain speaker, so I’ll call it what it is…Who wants to reject God’s Word and call Him a liar? No one, at least not intentionally.

I will reiterate this often…That’s why we must each know the Word for ourselves and not settle for second hand faith through teachers of the Word alone.

David Inquired of the Lord. He didn’t unroll the existing scrolls of his time to look for answers. No, he sought the Lord, expected to hear from Him because he had a relationship with Him, and did.

What I am not saying here is to ever, ever, ever not read the Word and seek God in it for directions and guidance. But I am saying, in addition to the Word, we too can learn to hear from the Lord through a very close and personal relationship with Him – sometimes while reading the Word, sometimes during prayer times or simply talking to Him.

Take a step closer to God and He takes a step closer to you. He will not force you to pursue, call upon, or diligently seek Him with all our hearts.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways,” (James 1:5-8).

“Who gives to all liberally.” Hearing from God is for all His children, and He doesn’t stingily dole out wisdom to His sons and daughters. No, His Word says, He gives to all liberally.

The stranglehold of unbelief covers a majority of His church who say otherwise. Who say God doesn’t speak to His children today outside of His Word. Who limit God and call Him a liar.

What kind of Father doesn’t speak to His children? Not our heavenly One. He gives wisdom to all of us, liberally and without reproach, if we ask in what? In faith. Not doubting.

In these times of the church’s vast unbelief and lack of knowing God’s Word, you must guard your heart. With certainty, the more you know the Word, your faith grows, and you take God for His Word, the more the enemy will use people, even His own, to try to get you to doubt God and pull you back down to their “little faith.”

In Acts 19,20, and 21, God tells Paul what to expect in Jerusalem and uses people to warn him not to go there.

“Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, ‘The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles’” (Acts 21:11). We see the Holy Spirit used Agabus to warn Paul yet again, and it was up to Paul whether he’d still go there, and he chose to.

This is another example of how the Holy Spirit can speak to us, even today.

“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants, I will pour out My Spirit in those days,” (Joel 2:28-29). 

Nowhere in God’s Word can you find that the Joel 2:28-29 expires. So how do some fall for the false teaching that hearing from God directly is not for today? Or the false teaching that the gifts of the spirit are also not for today (a subject would take a whole other post or more)?

• Sitting under false teachers who are often bound by a religious spirit or more worried about losing church members than teaching the truth.
• Pride, not willing to be uncomfortable for God’s sake, fear, putting man’s opinion before God’s (E.g. What would my friends think if they found out I believe God speaks to me?; Or *gasp* to speak in tongues?).
• And many more reasons.

“Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love,” (Revelations 2:4).

I humble myself under Your mighty hand, O God, and pray that You keep me and never let me leave You, Jesus, as my first love.

I see so many scoffers hating on the Word of God and mocking people when they say they’ve heard from the Lord when all throughout the Word, even before the new and better covenant we live under, people heard from the Lord by the Holy Spirit just as we can today. Only believe.

Oh, and notice how I stated, “hating on the Word of God.” Because they are not just attacking those who take God for His Word, have shunned unbelief, and hear from God but also God and His Word directly.

His sheep hear His voice. Period. Ignore haters of God’s Word and truth and seek Him with all Your heart. The more you seek Him in His Word and prayer, the more you’ll learn to hear His voice. It’s His will.

Verses about hearing from God and being given wisdom and instructions by Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths,” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’
Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left,’” (Isaiah 30:21).

“All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children,” (Isaiah 54:13).

“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart,” (Jeremiah 29:13).

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know,” (Jeremiah 33:3).

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come,” (John 16:13).

“Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses” (Psalm 25:12).

“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God,
Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go,” (Isaiah 48:17).

Jesus is the Good Shepherd who never leaves us or forsakes us. 

When we are born again, He literally lives in us. His Spirit dwelling with ours. If you’re born again, that’s you too.

Of course, we can hear Him if we take Him for His Word, believe and do not doubt that He does, and listen.

Prayer

Father, that I take You for Your Word and not the opinions and unbelief of man. Your mercies are new every morning. This is a new day, and I choose to have a new beginning in my walk with You. I am Your child, and I can hear Your voice too. You give wisdom to me and liberally, and I honor and praise You and give You all the glory in Jesus’ name, amen.
